IDENTITY THEFT

At Carolina Premier Bank, preserving your trust is a priority for us. Because we understand how important it is to protect your personal and financial information, we've established secure systems, policies and operational procedures that are intended to restrict unauthorized access to customer information. And, we maintain these safeguards every day.

Protect Your Good Name

With the rising occurrence of identity theft, we also want to help you protect your good name. After all, you are the first line of defense against identity theft. Identity theft is a federal crime in which someone wrongfully obtains and uses your personal information in a fraudulent manner. To minimize your risk, we recommend the following precautions:

  • Shred or tear account statements, canceled checks, pre-approved credit card offers or any material containing personal information.
  • Provide your social security number only when necessary. Never print it on checks.
  • Do not place credit card or driver’s license numbers on your checks.
  • Carry only identification, bank and credit cards that are necessary. Do not write down PINs. Commit them to memory.
  • When using ATM machines, be wary of wandering eyes.
  • Password-protect your credit cards. Select a password or PIN that does not contain obvious or easy to obtain information, such as your birth date, phone number, etc.
  • Report lost or stolen checks or credit cards immediately.
  • Don’t leave outgoing mail in your mailbox. Remove incoming mail as soon as possible. If you are going out of town, have the U.S. Postal Service hold your mail.
  • Every year you should contact the fraud departments of the three major credit-reporting agencies for a copy of your credit report. It costs a nominal fee and is well worth the expense.

How Carolina Premier Bank Helps – Electronic Communications
There is no greater interest at our Bank than protecting our customers against fraud. While Carolina Premier Bank has many checks in place to detect deceitful activity for our customers, we can both benefit from customers who are educated about the risks of identity theft.

Today electronic communications (emails) have become a preferred method of communication. Unfortunately, it has also become a primary target area for fraud. We want our customers to know that Carolina Premier Bank will never:

  • Send emails that require you to enter personal information directly into the email
  • Send emails threatening to close your account if you do not take the immediate action by providing personal information
  • Send emails asking you to reply by sending personal information
  • Send emails requesting you to enter your User ID, password or account numbers into an email or non-secure webpage.

Should you ever have a question or receive a suspicious email representing Carolina Premier Bank, please contact us immediately at 704-752-9292. We’ll investigate the matter for you.
